FODMAP Diet

FODMAP stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides And Polyols. These are the chemical names of several sugars that are poorly absorbed in the small intestine. FODMAPs are the most fermentable sugars we can consume that feed yeast strains within our native microbiome.

Overconsumption of FODMAP foods and drinks promotes dysbiosis (imbalance) by preferentially feeding candida to over-populate our gut flora. Excess fermentation produces hydrogen & methane gases that inflame the gut, causing it to become hyper-permeable, commonly referred to as leaky gut.
